It tends to be the big names (Sony, Alpine, Pioneer etc.) that bother to go to the trouble of interfacing to manufacturer's controls. If you're going for a budget brand player, it's highly unlikely that there will be an interface available. It doesn't hurt to ask though. You could be pleasantly surprised.
I still don't understand what the big deal is with the steering wheel remote. It's a nice convenience feature, but I'm stumped as to why people make it a major deciding factor in which stereo they buy, or will even decide against transplanting a perfectly good stereo from their previous car, just because the steering remote won't work. Is it really that hard to press the buttons on the front of the stereo?
Personally, if I found a stereo with features that I liked at a price that suited me, and it couldn't be interfaced to the steering wheel controls, I'd buy it anyway.
