2002 Renault Clio Immobiliser Query

Hi all, new to the site so hope you forgive me if in wrong place.
Am driving a 1.2 Clio 2002 and recently the red "Stop" light on the dash has been staying on and not letting me start the car. This hasn't been happening regularly just on the odd ocasion. I have 2 keys both have central locking buttons on and it has been happening only with one of these.

Also driving along one foggy night when the "stop" light came on and the engine cut out (had to glide over to side of road) very scary!!!

Any ideas at all whats happening?

I probably can't help you, I really don't know anything about how cars work but since no one has replied.

I have an intermittent immobiliser problem and, when I did a search and asked in the forum too, people suggested that it could be a leak in the sunroof/ariel because that is where the immobiliser and the central locking is in most clios.

This info. doesn't help me because I have an older car and no central locking but it might apply to you, I don't know, it's worth checking.

As an aside, does anyone know if my insurance company will let me deactivate my immobiliser? I can't get my problem fixed since it is intemittent and the can't check whats wrong unless it is playing up at the time. Replacing is silly money!
Also, how do you re-set the immobiliser if it does play up and if it is a non-central locking one? Getting in and out and locking and unlocking doors doesn't do it.

I hope mine doesn't go off when I am driving, that sounds horrible!
