cigarette light problem

I mainly use the cigarette socket for charging my phone but lately ive been unable to. When i plug the charger in the small red light come on but the phone dont charge.
Ive checked the fuse in the charger and a different charger for another of my phones yet i still get the same problem.
If i plug the lighter in the socket it does not stay in to heat up but if i hold the light in itll heat up.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi highlander317

From your description of the problem the lighter socket has got its 12volt supply,if you look into the socket you will see two cut outs with the earth connection for the element inside,it is these that hold the lighter in place until the required temperature has been reached, they then bend away to let the element pop out.

Using the charge adapters has bent these away from there original posistion, all that is required is a little tweak on each to put them back so they can grip the element once more.Carefull though take the fuse out before you put a screwdriver in or the fuse will blow.

Next problem is the charge adapters themselves.
The little red light means they are getting the 12 volt supply
and should give an output to charge the phone, try putting a voltmeter on the output to see if a voltage is there,if it is the phone should charge.

Hope this helps.
