stock HU with amplifier

Hi all

I have a 1998 model 1.9td with the stock cd head unit and steering wheel controls.

I want to add an amp to the head unit to drive additional speakers, but there is no pre out on the stock unit, and the alternative head unit I have has the outputs but wont use the steering controls.

Anyone know how to resolve this issue at all.

I've used amps with standard hu's without any real problems. It's NOT the ideal setup, but works nonetheless.

Most amps have high-level inputs (i.e. you don't need to coonect to them using rca cables). If your amp has these, it would probably be best to use wires from the rear shelve speakers and connect these to the amp.

If the amp does not have high-level inputs and uses rca cables only, then again you can use the wires from the rear speakers but get a converter that converts these wires into the pre-outs that the amp requires.

I can't remember exactly how I did mine, but you can also leave the rear speakers connected as well providing you connect the pre-outs the right way (there is a right / wrong way which affects the impedance of the speakers)
