Thanks for pointing that out mate. So basically if you have a coil before that date it was the earlier version which may have problems ? Was this a fix that Renault contibuted costs towards ? I have checked mine armed with the info you posted and they are all 2004 coil packs but looking at the servive history invoices there is no mention of a coil change on my vehicle..

Yes any Coils manufactured by Sagem and dated earlier than 330-3 with either Black OR grey tops are the potentialy defective ones..

Laguna II Owner, If there is no note of your coils being changed on your service history then there is a chance that the AA may have replaced them at the roadside for a previous owner?
Or a dealer replaced at a service, armed with the knowledge of a "solution". Note that a dealer will not necessarily tell you if warranty work that you did not request was carried out..

Coils were and still are covered by warranty.. Even after the initial 3 year period depending on Renault service history and miles covered.

Horatio, glad your release is imminent. We have three more months. It's a long time to keep the fingers crossed, but there has been no repeat performance so far!

Thanks Ntiana, though possibly against my better judgement I've ordered another Laguna to replace it.

Incidentally, I was sorting through some paperwork and found the "very very very nice man's" report that he wrote out when I had to call out home start a few months ago. I was right insofar as the fault logged by the ECU was on no.2 injector, but as I don't get to see the bills (they go straight to the lease company) I can't swear that the dealer actually swapped the part.

Speaking to the dealer yesterday, they told me that they don't normally swap out parts unless they can see the fault as being present at the time of diagnosis. But they okayed the repair with the lease company and so went ahead and replaced the injector based on the logged fault code. So bearing in mind that no fault was shown when I took it in the first time (the AA man cleared it when he read it with his diagnostic computer) they probably ended up doing 'stuff all' last time around

Horatio maybe you should note the car's registration here or hide prints out of this post under the trim and then whoever buys it from the auction or car supermarket will be armed with the knowledge you had..

Which Laguna are you replacing it with ? Not a daft idea at all as I think the newer ( post 05 facelift ) diesels have had a lot of modifications to hopefully iron out problems. Also the wheels have been redesigned so should not buckle so easily.

laguna , no fault logged
