fuel gauge needle

i have noticed that my needle goes up and down depending on what direction the cars heading, also up and down hills. one minute ive got half a tank, then im empty!! any help

It's probablt to do with the float in the tank. Does it happen more when running lower on fuel?

Mines worse than that. it goes up and down if you put your foot on the brake. LOL.

I'd imagine your problem is due to the fuel moving in the tank. ie the sender is at the back of the tank, so when facing downhill all the fuel moves to the front and it appears theres less fuel in there.

I think mine's a dodgy earth somewhere back there. french electrics lol.

Fuel guage

Does the fuel guage needle move quickly and does it affect th temp guage - if so it could be due to a faulty voltage regulator or even a faulty alternator output.
