Angry New - need urgent help

My clio alize broke down last sunday. The RAC were called out and couldnt start it. It was taken to a local renault dealer in Oxford. I was told the problem is with the wiring looms. There is a lost feed to the injection computer and the relay is full of water.

I have been quoted 500 to repair the wiring loom and replace the relay and 700 to repolace the wiring loom...

Is this a fair offer?

On another matter - I have only had this clio for 2 and a half months, it is covered by a motor care warranty which means wiring looms are not covered.

Has anyone ever managed to get someone else than themself pay for this repair? I have shed too much money for such a pricey problem to show so soon.

Can the wiring loom be tampered with say when a stereo is being fitted? or any other work is being carried out on the car?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

A bit more info is needed.....

How old is the car?

Did you buy it from a dealer or a private sale?

Do you know where the wiring loom is damaged?.It's not uncommon for the wiring loom to give problems in the engine area on some Clio models.......

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

Welcome to the forums JK...I've moved your post to the electronics forum to hopefully give you a better chance of getting some help.

Have you contacted the garage you bought the car from as this is a major fault to suddenly appear after 10 weeks,if they won't pay up maybe you can convince them to pay a percentage.

Not too technically mided myself but I'm sure a member will help if they can.

Hi thanks for the response.
Clio is a V reg (1999), had 44,000 miles on the clock. It was bought from a dealer in Welling, Kent. It supposedly has had an HPI check too. Major work was done on it (according to service history) in 2005 - though i can't tell what as there is no accompanying paperwork apart from the service book.

Unfortunately I am not sure which part of the wiring loom is damaged - i believe it is just filled with water...

Is this really an electronic problem? And could this issue have been picked up prior to sale and the techicians at the garage I bought my car just thought "should be fine"?

I had a problem with the speedometer too the day I bought the car. It would sometimes work and other times sit at zero. That weekend my car told me that the distance between london and oxford was 7 miles!!! Ideas ??? Could these all be related? I also have a non-renault stereo fitted there too... could this have damaged any of this?

welcome to the forum. I doubt the stereo would have caused this.
