Laguna II 52 1.9dci Fuel injection fault on ESP

When I restarted everything was back to normal.

I also have a problem with a ropey tickover, but the car runs great apart from that.

Any help would be gratefully received
hello Ittledo
I have exactly same problem. It spent three days in independent garage. The error codes indicated blockage in fuel return pipe. Not found. Complete check on everything with no joy. Dealer said that it was probably a software problem ie not really anything wrong with car at all. They said there was possibly a patch available to correct but not sure. Oddly the error comes up about once a month, always in the same spot - 4 miles from home, mornings only. I drove it 2000miles in France this summer without error. I have concluded that it is a lose connection on one of the sensors that disconnects at certain resonant frequency - hence same spot on road. I haven't got the energy to get it fixed, I just put up with it, stop, restart and it goes away for another month.

Hey Buddy, my 2002 Renault Laguna Sport Tourer 2.0 16v Auto Tiptronic had a similar fault although my fault codes were; ESP / FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM & GEARBOX all at the same time.
Initially it came on because a local garage, who fitted and wired in my new towbar, tweaked the multiplex wiring in error.
However I have just had the car at Renault in Oxfordshire and they could not find evidence of the fault codes stored on the ECU so they erazed those with a simple diagnostics check and they have not come back yet!
They did say that during the last car service in August the local garage fitted non standard spark plugs and that this does have an affect on the car and its performance so I had those changed to Renault ones!
My towbar is booked to be re-wired in next week by Renault.
The lesson I learnt is that with such a complicated car with all its sensors etc then going outside of Renault for servicing and repairs is not always the best option, despite knowing that Renault do charge the earth for such work.
I thought I saved 300 by having the towbar supplied and fitted elsewhere but in fact it has now cost me 500 more than initially going to Renault.
If it comes back then I'll be forced to get rid of the Laguna, I can't be doing with unreliability.
Good luck with yours.

Unhappy 2.0 ide Laguna II

Well guys this is it.Just got my laguna back after more than 2 months from garage.New fuel rail, battery, various sensors...and hundreds of pounds out of pocket.Car works for about 5-10 minutes and then back to normal self (shakes and engine light flashes). There is whistling sound coming from exhaust and engine oil is milky.Garage confessed to breaking a bolt while taking exhaust out and simply can't fix that car. Also i will receive a full refund for the past 2 months as in over 30 years of their trading and vast experience they have not come accross a car that can not be fixed.Suprisingly no fault codes coming up on computer any more.A total mystery.

IDE Problems

Hi there

Have just joined and glad i'm not alone with this problem! - I have a 2002 Laguna ST and had the fuel rail replaced in March this year as was experiencing the same problems (voice says check ESP, loss of power etc) and it has happened again to me last weekend!. I am praying that it is under warrantty as it cost me 650 to replace. I will let you know how things go.......

I had a similar list of fault indications with my Laguna II 2.0ltr IDE and after several abortive visits to dealers and quote for replacement fuel rail, taking the head of etc. etc etc and 2 diagnostics. The CURE liberal doses of injector cleaner and bingo no more lights, limp mode or frustration. One 250ml bottle every other month keeps (fingers crossed) things normal, do get a lumpy tickover now and again but hey that's acceptable. May be worth a try at least it is a cheap alternative to dealers with cash on their minds.
As I have said before if Ren were in the aircraft construction industry what would happen if a plane went into limp mode
