Question What Alarm and Immobilisor?

How would I find out what alarm and immobilisor is fitted to my car?

I have a sticker on the drivers window that states Cat2 Thatcham but do not know whather this is alarm or immobilisor!

Also, I understand that some insurance companies may ask for proof of alarm/immobilisor that is fitted, how would I get this? Someone mentioned to me that there would be number on the alarm?

You could look behind the dash for the alarm control unit, Usually it will be a black or silver box with 10-20 black wires running into it. There may be a make and model number on the box, A certificate of fitment is usually supplied when the alarm is originally installed. So if you don't have it now then it will be quite difficult to get another one unless you known who and when it was installed.

Go to the thatcham website.

They have a list of alarm models etc fitted to various cars.
Whilst it may not be a comprehensive list it should give you a pretty good idea. Obviously if your car has an aftermarket alarm it wont be on the list. They only list factory fit models.
