Could be an intermittant fault with the alternator or possibly a loose connection somewhere on the alternator. Also check battery terminals are clean and connections are nice and tight. How old is your battery? I would fit a new one anyway if it is more than 3 or 4 yrs old. Car batteries do not tolerate being completley discharged, and if left to go "too flat" never fully recover from this.
A colleauge of mine had a very similar fault only a few weeks ago with his Volvo. As his battery was about 4 yrs old he bought a new one anyway and also checked his alternator, alternator tested ok. All was well for 2 days, then battery totally flat again. Checked his alternator again and this time it wasn't charging. He check the obvious connections and all ok. He has since fitted a service exchange alternator and all seems well.
