Keyless entry advice appreciated

After months of indecision, finally got a 2.5 year old Grand Espace 2.2dCi Initiale on Monday. However, I already seem to be having problems with keyless locking etc. Car seems to lock when I walk away with key - locks whir, car beeps and lights flash as per handbook. However, if I return to car WITHOUT key and pull on drivers door handle twice, door opens. Car will start without key being in slot, so handsfree operation does seem to be enabled.

Given the large number of posts to the forums about problems with keyless / handsfree operation, do people suggest that I should get the dealer to fix this under warranty or is the system so unreliable that I would be better off just using the keycard as a normal remote to deadlock the car?

Any advice to a new Renault owner would be gratefully appreciated ....

Hello & Welcome to the Forums Adrian.

Defo take it to the Dealers if still under warranty as the hands free can be very expensive to repair.

Keep us informed of your progress.

Yep, it definitely sounds like the system is faulty. If the car is auto-locking (hear the motors and see the lights flash) then it should not unlock unless a keycard is in range. For a minute I thought that maybe there could be a spare keycard in the car, but in that case, it wouldn't lock in the first place.

I presume it doesn't auto-unlock if you lock it with the button. This should deactivate the hands-free system until the next time the start/stop button is pressed (well if it's anything like the Laguna system.)

My money's on it being a fault with the UCH . Get it sorted while it's still under warranty, as it'll be big bucks once the warranty expires.

Sorry if this is an obvious question - is the key card definately out of range when you return. Also try activating the deadlock i.e. keep the lock button down for a few seconds. Also do you get the same symptons with the other card?

As suggested though might need to be sorted under warranty - but no harm trying these options
