Would anyone have any idea what could be wrong with the following Carminat system:
Car is a Laguna 2 with Carminat GPS, it appears to have all gone potty, the on screen display has no bearing on my location, when the car is moving the display arrow is going in the wrong direction also, is there anything i can do to reset or to resolve, i have no knowlegde of GPS so don't know if the problem is the aerial. CD Disc or the unit itself,
Any advise welcome.

Hi There
I have the same problem with the disc jumping from red to green and the gps symbol permanently red. So I bought and after market GPS antenna that was advertised on ebay and cost me £14 and i fitted it within minutes after resetting the systems eureka GPS turns green and the discs also turns green! So rather than buying the shark fin which can cost you an arm and a leg from renault or from the scrapyard which you don't know the true condition, this will be the cheapest choice. It is mostly 8 out 10 it will be the antenna. But when you do want to buy this after market antenna make sure it is an SMB type connector. I hope this helps.

There can be a number of reasons for this but you can get a clue by looking at the CD symbol and Sat Dish symbol on the screen.

If the Sat Dish symbol is green the system is receiving a suitable signal and its not related to the aerial. If it is Sat Dish symbol is red it is not receiving a signal and the problem is unlikely to be related to the CD. A damaged antenna connection is the most likely problem as they are fragile. If the CD symbol stays red it might be related to either the disk or the CD drive however it can take a couple of minutes the system to settle down. Try a computer CD cleaning disk to clean the drive to eliminate the possiblity of dirt on the drive head particularly if your or the previous owner was a smoker.

Renault publish a service manual for the SATNav system called "technical note 3729a" which includes a check list for fault finding. Type this description in Google (including the quote marks) and see what comes up.
