Air Cond not working.

Hi, am a Newbie so go easy.
Have a 2 1/2 year old Megane, love the car but one or two things starting to happen.
For last few months no air conditioning - light comes on when I press the A/C button but with the fan set on any position - the air coming out is relatively warm. I have checked the metal vent and there seems to be quite a lot of gas in unit. But the revs don't drop when I switch the A/C on. Is this showing that the compressor isn't working? Any help or test to do greatly appreciated.

Hi normally when you turn the air con on the revs will increase a little,it may need regased or as you have already said the compresser may be on the blink,if it is the compresser i would say you could have this replaced under warranty but if it needs regased i think you have to pay for this yourself???but Renault may also pay for it but i would not of thought so,i hope this helps Donald

renault may not pay as there are many get outs for faulty air con. If it's a compressor failure you may be lucky of it needs regass or has a leak you will probably need to pay.

You could try Quick fit, they claim to do a free check, or ring around a few places local and see if they will be willing to do a check on the system.

As a thought is the air coming out quite powerful or is the force of air weak, if weak the pollen filter may be blocked.

Hi Buzz - would love to know how you checked there was enough gas in the air-con system as it is a sealed system

Thanks everyone for the replies, air force is powerful, comparable with another Megane.

Regarding checking the gas. I know its a sealed sytem, but there is what looks like a valve that I assume the gas is pushed through - when I pressed the centre valve very quickly, quite a force of pressure came out.

Thanks for your suggestions.
