Hi Mike - to be honest I haven't a clue where the starter button relay is situated - I suspect under the bonnet. What makes you think the relay is faulty - may be worth checking out the cables to the starter though. I discovered similar probs on a Megane and was able to trace it to a bad earth on the engine. As I said earlier it could also be a duff card reader as the system will not let the engine start until the card is locked in the card reader. This is a safety device to prevent it being removed whilst the engine is running or the car is being driven. Additionally it couls also be down to a duff steering lock as the car won't strt until it is free.

Relay 21 on the UCH fuse box is the Starting Inhibition Relay.

It seems the UCH controls the activation of the starter using inputs from the card reader, the start button, the gearbox and clutch switches.

It seems the start drive comes from connector BE pin B3.

The manual states that ...

'Note:- certain vehicle failures originating in the Renault card reader, the clutch pedal or Neutral position sensors can modify engine starting. In this case, the starter motor is supplied by continuous pressure on the engine start push button'

I guess the starter solenoid will be built into the stater motor itself.

Did you solve the issue?

I have the same problem starting 2 days ago.
When I half put my card in the card reader radio goes on, the dispaly also, so I think it could be related with the neutral position sensor of the gerabox. Anyway I had reverce speed light, park assistant etc.
When I press the clutch nothing changes.
Does it leads to faulty neutral position sensor?
Thanks in advance!
