Red face Laguna II Won't Start if Left in Gear. Blonde Moment.

Just thought I'd share my stupid act of the day to give you all a laugh.

Got in the car and although everything came to life the Start button didn't do anything.

Tried everything, Jump starting, checked the fuses. Took the card out and tried again.

After 30 mins of messing about I called out the AA. He came and checked all the same stuff I did.

A further 5 mins of him messing about I spotted the gear stick and thought.....I wonder.......

How stupid do I feel?

Although I'm surprised the nice Laguna Voice Lady didn't inform me of my stupidity. As far as I can see there's nothing in the manual about this either! Ho hum.

Dont worry about it, I fell for that one the second day after I had bought my Lag II - I started cursing the car, thinknig I'd bought a lemon..... lol.

Easy mistake to make.

Believe me, we've all done it at least once. I never leave my car in gear when I park it, but loaned it one lunchtime to someone who did. I was on the verge of phoning the RAC when I actually worked out what was going on.

If you get fooled by it twice (well for more than 10 seconds) then you can feel free to consider yourself silly

Later models tell you to 'press clutch and start' if the car's in gear, and tell you to 'press brake and start' if it isn't. Clearly, Renault have had enough negative feedback on this problem to modify the instrument cluster and give you more warning.

we had a new transit where I used to work that had a similar setup, caught me out once and we used to have a stream of calls from the drivers about it not starting.

It's all down to the nanny state, to many safety features.

Auto mercs won't start unless you have your footbrake depressed.

These safety features do help at times though.

A problem well stated is a problem half solved !
