Scenic - Immobiliser - Key Programming - Killed my Computer
i've got a scenic 1.6 1999, and it's been very good to me. but recently the immobilizer cut in and we couldn't get into it. a Renault dealer found a fault with the key and re programmed it, and it worked. they also said they'd reprogram the spare for free. so i took the spare in. then i was told the computer had died and needed replacing because the key i had brought in did not match the car and by reprogramming it, and trying to open the car they had killed the on board computer and it needed replacing.
i did buy the key from a Renault dealer, but have no receipt and i had used it on the car just six months ago
i have 2 questions
can a key really cause this amount of damage?
shouldn't the mechanic have spotted that the key was wrong before testing it, if it is possible to 'blow' this expensive part so easily?
hope you can help me
