Unhappy Laguna - Electrics Problem

Hi, I'm a new member so would appreciate some help back from experienced members!
I have a Laguna Sport Tourer II - 2.0 privilege tiptronic on a 2002 plate (nice car), this week I had a new detachable towbar fitted with single electrics, I drove it from Oxford to Yeovil and back to collect a new trailer - everything was fine.
That was yesterday, today (this evening), after driving the School run with no problems, the car lost power with no acceleration available and the voice computer stated - ESP Fault, Gearbox Fault and Fuel Injection System Fault and the screen remained yellow reading SERVICE.
Can anyone tell me what is likely to be wrong, could it be the wiring on the towbar (which was fitted by HiQ garage) or something more serious - HELP!!
Am I looking at an expensive repair or is it something simple?
I'd appreciate any advice, thanks very much, Mike

I think the towbar is pure coincidence. The faults that it's reporting shouldn't be related to the towbar wiring at all.

Did the message clear when you stopped and restarted the engine? And is yours the IDE engine? (It should say IDE on the door trims if it is.) 2002 was the year when they replaced the IDE with the VVT (which just says 2.0 16v on the doors, I think.)

My 2.0 IDE used to do this sort of thing every now and again. Stop it and restart it, and the fault would usually clear. I'd be inclined just to treat it as a quirk of the car, because I ended up going back and forth to the dealers on countless occasions, only for them to find no fault codes stored.

Hello, thanks for the reply!
I took the car to the garage as the dash board went yellow again and reported the same faults on the way back from my daughters football match (she plays goalkeeper for Carterton - they beat Wantage 6 - 1 today), apparently its a throttle 'pop' fault and its that that needs replacing - booked in for Monday!
My car is the 2.0 16v (not IDE ), brilliant car and never had any major problems up to now!!
Turning off and restarting does reset the ECU but the fault does come back within a few minutes, hence being booked in for replacement part!
Thanks for your valued advice and suggestions, Mike
