clio 97/98 RXE key fob

my key fob is not sending out a signal and my manual locks are broken so I need to get this fixed. took the car to the garage today (he tested the key and said it doesn't work) im bringing the car to him in a week to see if he can mend it.
Is this very likley? is it possible for a mechanical engineer to fix my key fob or is it more likley that ill have to get a new key from the dealer.

The usual fault with the infra red keys is that the infra red led that is soldered onto the circuit board in the key breaks off. It can be resoldered back onto the circuit board and normal service will be resumed.
