Hello & Welcome to the Forums JuliePaul.

Have you read through the link in the previous post

It is a very common fault and in most cases the panel needs to be replaced at considerable cost.

Technically it is a breakdown as you are commiting an offence by driving a vehicle with no speedometer reading.

I would get onto Renault Customer Services if your car has just gone out of warranty for a possible contribution to repairs as this is a known fault.

There are a number of companys that offer a repairs service to LCD displays try a Google search.

It is re-assuring to know that I am not the only one to suffer with Renault Instrument Panel problems. Mine has been blacking out since March and the mileage has increased 10000 on its own!!

Renault want 480 to replace. I have complained five times and only just got a reply. I had to write to Roland Bouchara the CEO. They deny that there are problems although they have reluctantly offered 50% towards the cost.

Frankly I am not having it. I have continually complained about electronic problems and I have been fobbed off.

It is a bit rich when you take the car to a dealership and the mechanic comes out and gives the dashboard an almighty thump to get the display back up! I am sure that this is when the extra 10000 miles went on the clock.

I want the instrument panel replaced free of charge and I want compensation for the de-valuation of the car with an extra 10k on the clock that it has never done!

Renault have a big problem here and as consumers we all need to get on their case. Customer Relations is diaboilcal.

Update on my blank dashboard

Car is in the garage now waiting to be repaired. Renault Leeds quoted 621 to do the work but Renualt UK customer services have agreed to pay 90% and knock 500 of the cost of a new car when we change later in the year.

Ominously there's a shortage of replacement dashboards in the UK so we are having to drive a (courtesy)fiesta while we wait for parts to be shipped from Paris.

Curiously the dashboard started playing up 1 day after I flattened the battery and had to get started by jump leads -is there any suggestion that jump leads could cause internal damage to the dash; seems unlikely, any thoughts.

Failed display in 04 scenic

Renault originally agreed to replace it free of charge as a 'gesture of good will' but they have since said that they wont do it. The company i bought it from also wont shell out as they say it is not covered under the warranty. Renault wanted the best part of 500 to fix it, the new part being 341 + vat. If i was you i would get onto Renault and see what they have to say.

Good luck
I had the same fault today - no display at all ie speed, mileage. time - all missing. I called Green Flag and they told me it was illegal to drive it. The GF man jammed some cardboard under a connection to the display and it worked but the mileage has gone up by 7000 miles!! The cardboard wedge needs frequent adjustment. The two renault garages I took it to said it was not an uncommon problem. It will cost around 500 for a new display when the mileage will be reset to ZERO!! How will that affect the resale value?? Surely the manufacturer has a legal duty to ensure that that recorded mileage is maintained?
