Sat Nav red but still navigating

I've noticed for the last few days my sat symbol refuses to change to green. Checked in the diagnostics and of course it's searching. The dreeded shark fin problem I thought. However, the other symbols (CD and TMC) both go green as expected and if I look at the map it shows me exactly where I am. Even more suprising it will still navigate OK. Anybody out there know why the Sat symbol is red even though it knows where the car is and how I might sort this out.

Strange - maybe eject the CD and give it a clean. Can't think of any other advice.

my sat nav did this. The red satellite icon does mean that there is no signal from the aerial. The carminat also has a secondary system that measures the vehicles speed and turn angle, so that it still tracks in tunnels etc. This is probably how your system is still working, so you're probably ok.

it's normal situation that you can navigate with your navi even if GPS icone is red. Navi is designed to work withou it. that's the difference between mobile navi (which uses only GPS receiver) and navi mounted into your car. GPS signal is used only for initial position and every 3-5 minutes to correct your position.
but main source of parameters is car computer giving speed signal from abs and gyrosensor inside navi computer informing about turns etc. That's why the price of such navi is much higher.

and green sat icon does not mean that you have good GPS signal reception. It becomes green even when navi finds only 1 sat. But for position you need at least 3 of them (but you will have green icon with only 1 found).
