try copying it on your pc and making a clean copy before you try anything else. Not sure if stuff like dvdfab works on cds? If the copy is knackered then its a wear and tear item even though you can't prove it either way who did it. If you were to put in a clean copy and find it still doesn't work then you would have a warranty case, but I can't see how you could prove this without having to buy a legal new copy? aaagh. Hopefully the cleaned up copy will fix it.

Try T-cut, or if that doesn't work, then try Skip Doctor
I've managed to recover PS2 and other DVDs from fairly deep scratches and scrapes - make take a few times, but you'd be surprised at the results.

If the worse comes to the worse and you can't get the cd working you could get a replacement off ebay for a lot less than Renault would charge.

Firstly I would confirm the diagnosis by getting Renault to check the system with a 'good' disk.

If this is OK then the disk is clearly suspect.

These disks are readable on standard PC drives. Since you own the original I suggest you try to make a backup.

Using abrasive cleaners often helps on disks. If the scratch is circular this can cause the laser to mistrack.

It sound like the scratch must have come from the drive (abuse or neglect would cause random marks). I suggest you make this point.

In any case, these disks are available off e-bay for £50 max.

p.s always make a backup copy of these disks (for your own use). I use a CD-R in my unit with the original kept in a safe place.
