trip range resets ? Why

When the low fuel light comes on the Trip range resets from to ----. Is this normal? If so, whats the point !. Other cars I have owned in the past count the miles down to 0, rather than resetting when there is still some fuel left in the tank

Yep, it's normal. All of the Renaults do it.

Renault's logic? You should fill up ASAP after the low fuel warning light comes on. My best guess at the truth? Their fuel senders are so inaccurate that they don't really have a clue what's left in the tank

My experience seems to bear this out - if (before the dashes kick in) you take the range and divide it by the fuel economy, it should give you remaining fuel (miles left in tank / mpg = gallons remaining, surely.) In most cases, I've been able to drive to or beyond that calculated figure. On one occasion though, I ran the car dry a good half gallon before that point had been reached.
