Not only will an overcharging battery fry a battery but other electronics as well - maybe even the ECU . Modern electrics don't like large variations in voltage
It may be possible to get it repaired

With the engine running check the charging voltage of the batery with a voltmeter. Anything between 13.6 - 14.2 volts is ok. Anything over 14.6 volts and you will boil the battery but u will get a nice eggy smell.
