Battery warning light

Hi everyone - I've had an ongoing warning light coming on for 3 weeks or so - the battery one. We tightened the belts and checked the battery (which was only 4 months old). Then we put a new alternator on. It has then been fine for about 500 miles, but after a long Christmas journey the light has woken up again. It only comes on when driving along in 4th or 5th, and never even flickers when idling. It's charging up OK and behaving normally - so it could just be the light, but is there anything else that I should check? I'm concerned as on the 3rd we have to do a 250-mile journey!

By the way, it's a 1989 Espace 2-ltr petrol, manual transmission.

Hi you could check the earths from the engine and the batt, for corrosion.
Their is another way to check these wires but you need to know a bit about electrics ??. You will also need a multimeter !
The check is a volt drop along each wire while under load.
Problem ! could confuse you if you dont know electrics.
