Wont start, bonnet catch stuck....

Hi

My girlfriend has a Renault Clio 16v Dynamique November 2001. Last night it started fine and we went out. Got back to the car, drove home and she stalled it whilst trying to park - bless. Unfortunately it would not start again. It was quite wet last night.

Firstly - the bonnet would not open so I couldn't even do the basics of looking at the battery connections etc. The release cord seemed to work as the bonnet came up an inch, but pushing the catch seemed to have no effect - I didnt want to force it.

So if a kind soul can solve that problem, then its onto why it wont start. The engine will not turn over at all. When turning the key the lights stay on full, no dimming. Added to the fact that it started twice and we had been driving, I doubt that its a battery problem. Seems more electrical.

She has no manual with the car, so I wonder if there is some immobiliser issue?

Any help would be great as it will cost a fortune to get someone out to the car.

THANKS

hey,
I dont know how similar the bonnets are on our cars but I couldn't get it open one day, get someone to pull the release lever while you try to open the bonnet. This worked for me and has never happened again since thankfully.
As for it non starting it could be one of many reasons. First thing to do when you get the bonnet open is to do the obvious things as you have already said..check the battery connections... Does it make any noises when trying to start? A very common problem is a bad earth from the gearbox to the body. The easiest way to check this is using a jump lead. Connect it to the negative terminal of the battery and to a clean part of the engine and try to start it. If it starts you know what the problem is. A new earth strap will be around £5 from a local motor factors I presume.
Let us know how you get on.
