I have managed to fix mine. the clicking noise was coming from the CD lens rail and trolley. when the lens is returned in its start position, the motor that moves the lens should stop. there is a micro-switch which is pushed by the lens trolley. if this micro-switch or its connector is faulty the motor continues to pull the lens trolley that will reach the end of the rail and jumps over the rail thread making that clicking noise. If left unfixed the rail thread will get eroded and the lens trolley will be unable to move rendering the CD unit unusable.

One can check with a multimeter the continuity between the CD board and the micro-switch, or the micro-switch itself.

My fix was to take the CD unit apart from the CD player and clean the connector between the electronic board and the micro-switch. No clicking noise anymore.

Hope this fix will work for other people as well.

clicky cd player

usualy this is a sign of misaligned components due to wear, the laser lens track is the most likely component, gosh, dont go squirting any aerosol lubricant into the cd slot, if it gets into or onto the laser lens, it will stuff it. its not a cheap fix im afraid unless you are technicaly minded and capable of opening the head unit up to lubricate the components with a bit of white lithium grease. quite tricky realy.i guess it must have suffered from a lot of use.

I had this with the same unit in my Lag GT. It has now dishappeared and this happened after I reloaded the nav software after the unit had been disconnected. I also use it a bit more than I did which might be helping too, but I have only had the clicking once since, so it might be worth a try.
