I see. You could try a dash self test to make sure all works - on the speedo/tacho and all warning lamps etc - won't do radio display though. With ignition off, put keycard into slot. Hold down ADAC button on end of wiper stalk. Turn on ignition (hold down the start button without pressing the brake or clutch and hold for about 5 seconds. The instruments will go through a cycle and all the lights on the inst. panel should light up. If you press the ADAC button it should alter the small trip display showing any instrument panel fault codes memorised. These are not always of concern though as most cars tested posess a memorised dash fault.
Once all is checked, press the small black button on the instrument panel fascia to stop the test. That will at least prove if the dash lights are ok. Not sure if it lights up the actual illumination lights too though, but worth a try.
