1998 Megane Scenic 2.0 RXE - Trip Computer

Hi All,

I have just bought a '98 Scenic, the RXE model. Does it have a trip computer/mpg/fuel distance etc? I dont have the owners manual, and can only find ones online for the 99> cars (facelifted).

When I first turn ignition I get the Oil Check, then it goes to total miles with trip underneith it.. The black button/stick to the right resets trip.. but thats all it seems to do. I've seen posts about computer functions on the wiper stalk but my wiper stalk just has Front wipers, Intermitent frequency and then rear wiper functions. I would have thought the RXE would have this feature.. am I wrong?

The button to scroll through the comp functions is the end of the wiper stalk, if it aint there, you aint got the functions

trip stalk

My Scenic (think it is an EXPRESSION, but have qmark??) also only displays OIL OOOOOO; then changes to recent miles. Nothing else shows even though my model IS supposed to have the trip computer feature.

ALSO , the first time I sat into the car i pressed the black button in clock and now cannot get the actual miles TOTal to show, only since I bought the car.

It passed the NCT (MOT but in Ireland) but questions were asked!!

Any ideas?

I had a problem with my trip computer on my recently bought Coupe. It wouldn't work with the button on the end of the stalk but sometimes did when I worked the windscreen washers.

Raking through this forum I found a post by someone who had investigated similar happenings and found two wires solder had broken from the wiper stalk.

This was also my problem. The other chap managed to re solder them. I, for now, have connected a small push button switch (reset switch robbed from an old computer) until there is more light, better weather etc, so I can attempt soldering mine.

Be nice to be able to remove the steering wheel to get in better, but as it has an airbag, I'm a bit worried about removing it.

You can have a look by removing the bottom steering column cowling (3 torx screws) and by looking at the wires running to the stalk. The two offenders in my case were a light brown colour.

Might be the same problem happening here.
