Thanks to all replies so far, I've used them again this morning & had better results. I moved the ring with the different size rain drops & got it to work more as an intermittent setting than previous. Its a 2005 model if thats any further help to anyone answering my query. It would be handy to find out if its possible to switch the auto function off like you can with the headlight auto function.
Good car otherwise!

Your O5 Scenic is a Scenic II Phase I

I usually have the stalk on first click and the rotary dial set at the second drop and find that works very well on the Scenic II phase Is you have to move the stalk from the first setting to the second every time the engine is switched off .

On the latest Scenic IIs Phase IIs you can leave the stalk on the second stop without having to keep resetting the stalk on start up.

I always found with my 05 Scenic that I was always adjusting the settings on my 07 Scenic it seems to work considerably better.

The wipers are also speed sensitive.

You do need to keep the sensor area clean and the wipers as any muck on the screen/wipers just gets carried over the sensor area.
