Very good question, to which I think the answer is, unfortunately, no. I have various bits of generic obd software that read and clear fault codes, but nothing like as comprehensive as the Renault dealers' software.

As well as the VAG you mention, Alfa have AlfaDiag which does a good job. Looks like an opportunity for RenDiag.

Pirated versions of the 'official' Renault software can be found on offer on the web but at quite high prices and I have no idea whether they actually work, or what hardware they might require.

diagnostics = bread and butter for dealers

this seems pretty much in line with Renaults policy of making work for their dealerships. The cost of diagnostics is fantastic given that there is an on board computer. That said I am told that the onboard computer simply retains faults until they are cleared - no permanent history to assist diagnosis or to check for changes such as mileage alteration.

I would gladly pay 50 - 60 for a diagnosis machine that gave me the history of every fault the car has had!

In reality all that should be needed is a lead and some software to install on a laptop -- it should have an easy to understand interface so that the end user can see what it is safe to do and what needs to be undertaken - will we ever get it ....ahem not until hell freezes over!
