Hi guy's

As you can see i'm new here, so bare with me :)

I've just brought a Laguna 2 Tourer (2.0 petrol, privilege) on a 52 plate, great car! Can't fault it, apart from the display bellow the trip computer, shouldn't this display your tyre pressures? It does the system check ok on start up but i can't work out how to use the other fuctions?

I know this is a bit of a lame question to ask, especially as my first post, but its bugging me! :steam:

Cheers

It should show your tyre pressures for a few seconds when you first start the engine. Concentrate, or you'll miss it. If it doesn't, then the previous owner has probably had the pressure sensor system disabled due to one or more faulty sensors. A quick search of the forums will turn up plenty of info on the costs and merits of having it re-enabled.

Some time in 2002, they modified the computer slightly so that you can actually see the tyre pressures while driving. If the car has this version of the computer, then cycling through the trip computer displays will find one that shows the mileage on the top LCD display and the map of the car with the current tyre pressures on the bottom one. This change appeared to coincide with the Privilege losing its 17" Silverstone alloys and getting 16" wheels instead, so that may be a good indicator of whether or not your car should have it. Another indicator is the presence of an airbag disable switch on the end of the dash (visible only when you open the passenger door) which wasn't present on the earlier models.

It defiently doesn't come up even for a second on start up, I've checked it a few times now :)

I've gone through the trip computer and it doesn't seem to do anything other than turn off the display at the end of the cycle? (the says Renault on it the rest of the time). The Car Is 2003, on a late 52 plate, it has the air bag disable switch but still has the 17's. The only other thing worth of note is it came from Germany (squadies car) before i got it?

I'll also do a bit more searching on the tyre sensor disabling :)

Thanks again

I could be wrong, but I think only the older computer ever displayed the Renault logo. The later one displays a blank screen or the tyre pressures (unless it's warning you about something else.)

The change probably also coincided with the removal of the voice synthesizer. If your car speaks to you when a fault shows up or the fuel goes onto reserve, you more than likely have the old one.

That one should still display tyre pressures for a few seconds after starting the engine, there's just no way to bring up the display while driving unless it appears automatically due to low pressure on one of the tyres.

The fact that it doesn't appear at all says that the system has been disabled. The first thing I'd do is check that the car actually still has the pressure sensing valves fitted. Most tyre valves have a rubber stem that's a push fit into the wheel rim, but the Renault pressure sensing ones are metal all the way down and are held in place with a nut. If they're all of this type, then chances are that some or all of them will be working. Whether or not the receiver unit is working too (they tend to fill up with water which wrecks the electronics) is another matter.
