Duff Ignition Coil resets dashboard computer?

This has happened to me twice now.

One of the ignition coils fails. Not a serious problem in itself, easy to diagnose using traditional (i.e. non computer) methods; replace the coil , and all is well.

But, after fixing the ignition fault, the dashboard computer no longer indicates mpg or "miles till empty".

A visit to my local independant with a diagnostic computer, a reset of the dashboard computer, and once again all is well.

This has happened TWICE, so I don't think it's a coincidence.

My question is, surely a failure of an ignition coil should have no impact on the dashboard computer. Is this a software "bug", or has Renault built in a requirement to reset the computer (at great expense) following a minor fault?

Has anyone seen the same symptom?

A faulty ignition coils can indeed "spike" any of the onboard computers.. Seen it many times, and you are getting of lightly if it is only affecting the instruments..

I have had similar, the V6 Lag was in the Renault dealers for a faulty over the new year period.

They had it for 6 days through the holidays and awaiting the part.

when I got it back the battery was flat, and they said best to get an new one ?. which I did

since it came out the garage the leccy windows have lost thier one-touch and the drivers stutters and only moves an Inch.

Have reset the one-touch using the info on this forum, but drivers door window still bit sticky.

Also since no MPG and range to zero is retained when your stop/start the car ?

It does show up and works ok while driving just doesn't retain it in its brain ?

do I have any recourse do you think to chase the garage about this ??
