Another Scenic Sunroof Problem

Hi I have a 2005 Renault Scenic and the sunroof has now stopped working. The fuse is okay, but there is no movement of the sunroof and there is no noise coming from the motor. Is it common for the motor to fail or a possible wiring problem as I see it is a ribbon type cable coming from the rotary switch in the roof?

Any ideas or anybody know where I could get a wiring diagram?

HELP!!!!!!! :steam:

Have exactly the same issue. Chatting with the local Renault technician, who knows his stuff and is willing to discuss rather than immediately booking in/ charging for diagnosis as the Service manager wants, confirms that it could be the motor / wiring / CHU (electronic brain). Unfortunately there are no fault codes stored for sunroof faults, although plugging into the diagnostics computer can reveal if the demand for movement is being received / sent.

His suggestion was to ease down the roof lining in rear (motor sits behind rear fixed glass panel). Apparantly this gives access to a hand wind point on the motor assembly which can be used to open the sunroof a few inches by winding in the appropriate direction. Do this then turn on car / see if response is restored when the computer sees the roof out of position. This might then need resetting with the rest switch - the large round switch in the middle of the panel. "If still no response then wind the roof shut manually and come back in for me to have a play with it" was his suggestion.

Haven't tried such yet, as have since realised that my aftermarket warranty covers the fault but not main dealer rates so going to spend some time tomorrow finding a garage that I think could do the work without destroying the headlining and which the warranty company will agree to pay for!. I'll keep you updated on where it gets to / what the fault is.

My own personnal suspicion, given the occasional intermittant failue which has now progressed to a full failure is that just like the airbag warning light issue theres an intermittant / poor connection in the loom somewhere - probably at the motor / plug. The connectors used between the loom and items on the Scenic just are not up to the job - to resolve the airbag warning I just reach under the seat and 'wiggle' the connector. I might be completely wrong, but it just feels like the same issue with my current sunroof problems.

Well posting my last comments must have scared the car into submission. On the way to the garage today I repeated the reset procedure in the handbook / link above (for about the 100th time), and lo and behold this time it worked! Don't ask me for the logic, but nice to have the function again!!:d

Scenic Sunroof now working!

Well needless to say I just tried what the handbook suggested for teaching the ECU the sunroof's position and it worked. Now I did have to help the sunroof open with my hand and then I greased the guides and the sunroof opened and closed with no apparent problems. WWWWhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooooooo!

Thanks to all for your support.
