Cool Tom Tom Go 520

Hi All, I am thinking of getting the TomTom Go 520 for use in my Laguna Sport Tourer, Has anyone had problems with signal strength due to the heat reflecting windscreen or have any advice good or bad that they could offer ?

Thanks in advance The Ships Cat

If you have one of those screens then you can buy an aerial that connects to the Tom Tm and sticks to the screen I think. This will give you adequate strength.

One of these here Tom Tom You should be able to find it cheaper though.

The athermic windscreen only seriously affects models with the older SiRFstar II chipset. That includes the original GO (AKA the 'Classic') and the 300/500/700 models that came later.

They switched to SiRFstar III with the Rider and the One. All of the subsequent models have been SiRFstar III.

So you really shouldn't need an external antenna, though the windscreen does still attenuate the signal, so you may find that you get a faster lock and more accurate location tracking with an external antenna. Try it first. If you're happy without the external antenna, then don't bother getting one.

I use a TomTom 720 in my Clio II which has an athermic windscreen with no problems at all, no need for an external antenna.

I had a TomTom 520 in my Laguna II for about 2 hours and it worked fine with no problems. Same goes for the TomTom One XL. You don't need an external antenna.
