Hi Azurael - I see your point but he would be no better off as his current IAT sensor is open circuit anyway. Being a Renault it may go in default mode which is "limp home mode" - which is just about drivable. Raycantii's idea of bridging the connectors with a piece of wire would be just too risky in my view.

From what I know (I could be wrong) the sensor runs at 2 different voltages.

1. 5v when when passive and the ECU is in checking mode.

2. 12v when the engine is running and the sensor is activated and giving a signal.

If this is the case there would be a great risk of a dead short is the connectors where connected with no resistance

Thanks for your replies.

Unfortunately, I think the IAT sensor is a red herring re my problem. I've taken the sensor off of the car and given the sensor terminals a good clean with sand paper - seems that contact cleaner wasn't adequate. The sensor is no longer showing open circuit and it's resistance values change when the sensor is blown with hot air from a hair dryer!

Sadly, my car continues to run rich/rough. Back to the drawing board.
