I have a laguna 2, 1.9dci dynamique.

I use an IPAQ 4700, running tomtom 5, with a bluetooth GPS. In the boot I have fitted a 3 outlet power assembly in the l/h side of the boot where the elastic thingy and small shelf is. The GPS mouse sits next to it with a powered GPS reradiating antenna fitted inside the hatch window (used to be outside on the roof, but it attracted vandals) I have a seidio powered & amplified mount fitted to the windscreen.
All in all it works well, and did a good job in France recently.

The goona has an athermic heat resistant screen, it blocks signals for sure but there is still enough bouncing around in the car for an internal sat nav to work. With the GPS mouse sitting on the dash I get 4 - 5 medium strength sats, on the rear shelf i get 8 medium sats, with my re-radiating set up I get 9 full strength.

Please Help,

I can think of plenty of good reasons not to do this, many of which have already been mentioned. But top of the list is the fact that Carminat is crap. No seriously! It's awful!

The problem is that the design is at least five years old (even more if you consider that it's really only a customised version of an even older VDO-Dayton system.) It's buggy, it's slow to calculate routes, it makes really, really, really stupid routing decisions, and I reckon the interface was designed by someone who had a grudge against humanity. When I first got it in 2002, I thought it was the dog's proverbials, but things have moved on and unless you buy the new shape Laguna, Carminat hasn't.

Having used Carminat for three years, TomTom is a breath of fresh air. My 'GO' calculates routes much more quickly than Carminat and has a touch-screen interface that'll actually let you 'type' on a keyboard (you only realise just how frustrating the 'twiddle-click, twiddle-click' interface of most other sat-navs is once you've had touch screen.) For curiosity's sake, I ran the two side-by-side for a while, but nowadays I don't even bother with Carminat unless I've left my TomTom at home or lent it to somebody else.

Go on, buy yourself a TomTom. You know it makes sense.

The illegal copies of TOM TOM software have now been pulled from ebay . So if you haven't already bought it its too late.
A colleague of ours has it and is going to give us a copy - we will try it out in France over the next couple of weeks and see how much better than TT3 TT5 is.
