If my 2002 was anything to go by, 'pre-telephone equipment' is a little multiplug hidden away in the centre console. Coupled with the official Renault hands-free kit for your phone (read 'arm and a leg for badly designed tat') or some judicial hacking into the wiring, it should provide microphone, speaker and external antenna connections for your phone so that you don't have to retro-fit any of these items.
I'm not sure where the speaker is on the current model - it used to be where the automatic parking brake handle is now, though on my old car it was already in use by the speech synthesizer so you had to fit an optional separate speaker anyway. Maybe they've moved on a bit and actually interfaced to the stereo speakers.
If you have navigation, then the antenna feed probably isn't present because they swap the mobile antenna on the roof for the GPS satnubbin (unless that's changed on the new one.) On my last car, that left me with the microphone, which simply didn't work. I never actually got to use the Renault hands free - it was so awful that I took it out immediately after installing it and reverted to my old Nokia CARK-91 handsfree.
