I had this problem last year, but it did not cause any problems starting the vehicle when the card was fully inserted. The plastic bit that breaks is called the accessory switch, there is another plastic bit which acts when the card is fully inserted and starts the vehicle. I used superglue to stick the plastic bit back which lasted for a few months and then fell off again.

Did it again and it did not last very long, fortunately I was covered by a guarantee and got a replacement card reader and I am now very careful when inserting the card as they are very expensive.
