I've just purchased a 2010 Clio Dynamique Tom Tom. The SD Card had been removed from the carminat sat nav. I'm looking to replace it with one from ebay but the seller is asking me for the device id to they can register the card to my specific device. Is there any way of obtaining this without the sd card in the unit? As there is no sd card I can't access the usual menu's to get at it.
If all else fails, I'll have to purchase a new card - where would I get a brand new card for a 2010 carminat unit (not carminat live! - apparently there is a difference)
I don't think it is that straightforward to move SD maps to another TomTom device. Would be very interested to hear if you succeed. Best to buy a new card and purchase the maps you need online. Maps as well as SD cards (I believe) are coded to a specific machine. This might help Compatible memory cards for map installation

Best way is to buy a blank SD card 2gb upwards, switch off the Tomtom insert the SD card in slot switch the Tomtom it will write to the card to enable you to download the maps.
This done by downloading "Tomtom Home" to your laptop/computer and registering with them you will then be able for a price to download the maps on to your SD card :smile2:
There is no need to buy any "special sd card". Insert blank 16 GB card (you need at least 8 to download Europe map),
After it initializes, turn off the car, take sd card home.
Download TomTom Home 2(not tomtom mydrive) and insert your sd card into cardreader (you need to buy one if you don't have it - pound shop will be ok).
You will need to create new account (if not registered with tomtom yet) and then it will ask you to link your account with this car: agree. Afterwards it will restore all purchases that were done for that navigation. If there were no purchases - you can always buy map from the app.
Thanks very much. My son bought a 2010 Clio this weekend and the Carminat card doesnt work. The seller he bought it off Ebay and suggested we do the same. However on reading this i will try the blank 16GB SD card option first.... Thanks again
Wish I had £1 for every time this question has been asked. Maybe the solution should be made a sticky to save everyone from having to re type it. Mods, what do you think?
One of the many times someone has answered this question, explaining how to put a blank sd card into the unit then how to use Tomtom home to select your maps etc.
I bet you've done it more than once yourself, I know I have...[emoji1]
Hi Mr Dave, i am new on here, and definately feeling a bit green! Most of the members seem to have got the same year (2010) meganes and clios with the Carminats without the SD card in it? well mine has got one, i bought my car ( well financed)because i am a District nurse! and poor! ha ha! anyway my point is It has just decided not to work at all ! i have had the car 4 years in August never had a problem with updating it until 2 weeks ago it decided not to do "anything2 when i put it into computer to update, then when i put it back in the car "No Maps" came up and cannot do anything with it?? tried on another computer to just to check (desk tops old) but it did the same thing Nothing, no recognition at all?? can you figure this one out? And Thanks so much in advance! ( A very upset needs her sat nav to work round cambridge as i need it)
It sounds like something went wrong with your account with TomTom. I'd suggest using the problem reporting feature within the program and tell them what happened. They'll give you instructions how to restore your card assuming your account is up to date and you didn't make a backup.
Sounds like you have a corrupt file on your SD card, insert card into your computer locate "Loopdir" file delete it then place SD card back into your Tomtom start car and switch on wait until it finishes reading and replacing the file it will then replace your possible corrupt file "Loopdir"
Hopefully it should correct any corrupt files on your card and should now read correctly in your TomTom.
Finally, i've had time to take the car to the garage. But unfortunately I'm still none of the wiser because no faults were found with the unit. Do I risk purchasing the remote is the question?***128527;
