original bulbs were the standard clear ones supllied by renault. If been told to take the perspex out of the speedo housing but not sure how to as it looks like it wasnt meant to come out once fitted.

There you go then. If the original bulbs where clear yet the dash illuminated red that means each bulb must have a pair of red sunglasses which will need to be removed. You could try poking a hole with a drill and see waht happens.
