Hi Guys,

After some advice as I have a very dead Megane currently!!!

Been to renault they say its ECU, Sent it off to company they recommended and it has been returned as they say they cannot test it.
Have been told they cannot programme a second hand ECU to the car because of the immobiliser so can anyone tell me if this is just their way of trying to get me to spend a fortune and buy a new one or is it actually possible to fit a second hand one and if so how?

Any help or advice is very much appreciated..

Cheers

Would recommend getting it tested, the faults we have slightly gleaned from you would still suggest an ecu fault.
Unless you would like to reveal all info, of what originally happened.
What you have, and have not tried..

as i said renault have done 6 hrs on it and i have explained what car did and what renault said after that i am lost on it changing oil and filter etc i can manage but electrics are out my league

another company i contacted wanted 150 to test it so its now a question of how much to spend on it?

thanks

You never mentioned Renault having your car for six hours, ( again we are assuming, you left the car with them, they did a diagnostic scan, but not actually worked on your car for 6 hours) and what their report was, other than Ecu was Fubar..
What actually happened, that the car was taken to Renault, was all we are enquiring about really...

sorry my mistake

as said they supposedly looked at car for 6 hours including diagnostic which they couldnt do as it would not connect car was with them for 2 weeks

car just died and then just clicked relay and flashed mil lamp so was towed to renault who did there 6 hours investigating then said they think ecu has been spiked!!

car was running fine in the evening then in the morning it wasnt!! we even tried both keycards and no difference

think thats it all

sorry for confusion and thanks for everyones help so far.

Do you have a multimeter,, ( we will teach you how to use it,, they are really easy to understand)
if not buy one,
If nothing else with this car, you will be taught the basics, for your next car..

Ok, you will need to post your oval plate, we will talk you through what, and how to test,..
If it comes down to the same conclusion, your ECU is FUBAR, you will be no worse off, but at least nothing will faze you on electrics on a car.
Make sure you have a fully charged battery, as it will give you false/erratic readings
