Hi Guys,

After some advice as I have a very dead Megane currently!!!

Been to renault they say its ECU, Sent it off to company they recommended and it has been returned as they say they cannot test it.
Have been told they cannot programme a second hand ECU to the car because of the immobiliser so can anyone tell me if this is just their way of trying to get me to spend a fortune and buy a new one or is it actually possible to fit a second hand one and if so how?

Any help or advice is very much appreciated..

Cheers

hi

sorry to be gloom and doom - but this sounds like its going to cost more than the car is worth.
Sad it may be, but it may be time to let go.

RENAULT MEGANE 1.5DCI 2006-ECU KIT WITH FUSE BOX & CARD READER-8200399038 | eBay
Something like this..
But you will need the serial numbers to match.
Also, if you get second hand, it is no good without the steering lock or keycard.
If you go down this route, remove your steering lock, before you disconnect the battery.
The pin going through the steering lock box, is LEFT HAND THREAD, so you tighten to undo the pin, then the lock slides out..
The injectors will need coding into the used ecu, as they would in a new ecu

Yes, 82********** some on tbay, around 45£,,
But ask some questions off the seller ,, as in,, has the car had a bump, though its working on the car, it could well be locked, when fitted to your car, and it wont work,
(Airbag locking status, start conditions not met) DAMHIK,,

If you fit a complete kit, the only issue will be that, the vin stored in the ecu/uch, will not match your car.
A used ecu will work if virginised,, but you are not going down that route.
You are fitting a complete kit....
Some of these 1.5dci's refuse to start, with second hand ecu, unless injectors have been recoded to the ECU.
So bear that in mind, if it refuses to start.....

Personally I would call them tell them the symptoms and any diagnostics done and ask for a quote ...what is there to lose barr the price of a phone call

I have said it before on this forum there is no better way to check out a ecu unit is on the vehicle itself. And yes none of the ecu repairers can check out these ecu's. The very most likely (cause of you vehicle being a nonstarter) common fault loss of switched earth at ecu which activates the feed to the fuel pressure regulator. The wiring on this vehicle certainly needs checked out before jumping to conclusions if this is a wiring fault throwing all the ecu kits at it won't do it any good. My advice to you is a 05 car do not start throwing parts at it as it's not worth it unless you have the proper guidence

Now if you take the time to read the original post you will see that he has taken the time to go to a Renault dealer who diagnosed the ECU now you and all your wisdom may like to divulge the information that Renault may off missed and give the OP a full concise instruction that may be understood by the home mechanic
