Radio dead, Fuse OK? **DeLighted it's Fixed**

Weird thing, my radio died for no apparent reason, no time clock showing in centre console.

Removed radio to see if there were any lose connections and to get number off it to get code as I don't have the code.

The code is OK as there is a free android app for it, can't say more.

I can't find any blown fuses and the radio fuse is certainly OK, tested with a meter.

Is there a separate fuse for the centre console clock/radio display as I can't seem to find it.

At a bit of a loss as what to try next.

The radio is a tape cassette and CD changer and will not turn on at all.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Check the *** lighter works. If no, find fuse.
These radios need two feeds.
Why I'm helping you after spoiling an almost 24Hrs Last person record, I don't know? >:)

Checked every dammed fuse, non blown.

Will reconnect the radio and see what happens, still at a bit of a loss as to what is wrong!!!

The lights for the clock on the center display are not lighting up at all, could it be that the bulbs in that have blown and that is affecting it?

No clock or temperature is displayed but you can see it is working if you look closely and the fuse that powers it is OK. Now flashing to reset the time.

Ideas appreciated.

Re: Radio dead, Fuse OK?****FIXED****

Reconnected it all, the radio turns on and asks for code, enter code from Android App and it works.

It is the bulbs in the centre display that have died.

Now have to find out how to replace them.

Looks like remove the instrument cluster surround to get at it.

Simples.
Take the whole dash top off. I kid you not. Piggle off speaker grilles, undo torx, lift off.
A 'kin sight easier than you think. :smile2:

It's dead easy to gain access to the back of the clock, pull up both speaker grills at either side and undo the T20 screws at each side, then the whole top section of the dashboard can be removed and the clock bulbs can be accessed, hope this helps...

Years since I had one. May be those capless ones.
IIRC some are hidden, may need to unscrew the display too.

Got the dash top off easy.

Got bulbs out of centre display easy.

Little trick for getting bulbs out of holders as there is sod all to grab hold off, cut thin strip of masking tape and wrap around bulb, good grip then between finger and thumbnail, pulls out capless bulb easy.

One bulb was black, the other was clean and clear, tested on 12V Battery charger, both working, tested in holders.
WTF is wrong I now have no idea.

No fuses blown on car at all, checked every one.

Further testing on Thursday as hospital tomorrow for a CT Scan.

One bulb was black,
If you mean black inside the glass, then it's fooked needs replacing, filament is burning off. Also not a lot of use if it won't let the light out. :grin2:

WTF is wrong I now have no idea.
No light or LCD display not working?

That I don't know as yet, will try again on Thursday.
I bruised my ribs checking all the fuses first time around.
It is bloody difficult for me getting at it.

Everything else seems to be working though so I suspect the display unit itself rather than the fuse or the supply before the fuse.

Got iit sorted now, I was looking at the wrong bulbs,

The bulbs I was looking at were the safty belt warning light and door open warning light.

The safty belt warning light is a little bit blackened as I do not wear a seat belt as I have a medical exemption for it and it is on continuously when I am in the car.

Found the correct bulbs and they are definitly dead, box of matching Osram T5 286 1.2W 12V bulbs ordered.

Getting quite a dab hand at removing the upper dashboard.

Must get my eyes tested again shortly, its 2 years since my last glasses.

Can at this time of night, use a torch to see if it's on, off need code, which is likely after fuse playing.:surprise:

Re: Radio dead, Fuse OK?****FIXED****

New bulbs fitted, centre console fully lit up, radio working.

Moral of story on this one,

If the centre console is not lighting up and the time is not lit up check the bulbs first rather than all the dammed fuses.

It is a dammed sight easier to remove the dashboard top with two Tx 15 screws than check all the fuses.

It is a pain getting at the fuses to say the least.

A little trick in removing the speaker covers, use an old credit card, gives plenty of leverage and does no damage to the dash or covers.
