Hi
I have only had my Renault Grand Scenic 1.9 DCi 04 plate,54.000 miles for a couple of weeks and it has just died!
It will not start..No engine turning over..warning light indicates 'Low Battery'. (checked battery shows 10.6v) & SERVICE light and occasionally parking fault, I guess all due to low battery.
All the rest of the electrics are fine, lights come on, doorsopen fans start, so battery is not completely dead!

Breakdown guy came out put on the heavy duty battery charger on it, but still same error message and no engine turn-over!

I don't know whether to leave it on trickle charge to try and get battery charge up...or admit defeat and take it to a garage.

Do you think it is best to take it to a garage or an 'Auto-electrician?
New to all this ...I used to have an old nissan with no electronics...and only went wrong when I forgot to put petrol in!!
If any one could help I would be really grateful. Thanks

Thanks. I've just tried taking the battery out of our other car which is slightly lower capacity and 2 years older but seems fine on the other car, still same issues although I managed to close the windows which helps a bit. Put the original battery back in and the dash display won't even come on now. The original battery definitely is dying and I've failed to borrow a charger. I'm fairly tempted to take the plunge and just buy a new battery but I suspect it won't cure the problem :(
Struggling to find a local Indy in Stockport/Manchester as that would definitely be my preferance!

Have you checked the three fuses on the battery plus terminal?
Under the red cover there are these fuses.
Look like connectors but are fuses.
And can break with no visible sign so need a test light or multimeter to check.
With no dash I would suspect one of the smaller ones.

You CAN lock It.
Bonnet Up, Passenger door open. Flick the interior lock button. Disconnect -VE. Shut bonnet, Shut passenger door & lock with emergency key from the keycard.
Check Emergency key works BEFORE you do this, Please.
Or leave it open & hope it get's nicked, problem gone.
Not Recommended, just humour. >:)>:)

Update: Car is now fixed and running.
The fault was a corroded wire on the wiring loom that runs to the left hand side of the battery.
The cause seemed to be a badly routed earth wire that was running over the top of the loom and rubbing against the wiring loom causing the sheathing to be damaged and water to get in.
It was obvious where the wire was damaged/corroded as the wire was green in colour and broke very easily when pulled. A new piece of wire soldered in and running again.
I used a mobile specialist (not sure if I'm allowed to mention them) who spotted the problem and fixed it very quickly.
Very happy to have the car working again

I don't think the forum (a mod will no doubt jump in if I am wrong) worries too much about positive reviews or naming people who have given good service.
There is a reviews section in the Forums that is specifically for that. Just make sure it is your experience and not a trade advert.

Forum has to take a differing view on naming and shaming as this could fall into libel laws and not only the author (the poster) but the publisher (the forum) could find themselves being bombarded with lawsuits. Which can be expensive even if without merit.

Nice one on the fix and thanks for letting us know.
Sounds like an earth fault.
Glad it's sorted

Of interest, what was cost ?

if anyone else is having the same problem.. I just fixed mine, and thought I would share my experience..
dont know if this is related.. but the car was running fine.. and one day the steering lock would not come off.. I kept trying to start the car.. and on about the 5th or 6th time.. the lock came off
drove the car home and it was parked up for about 2 weeks
when I came to start it.. it wouldnt turn over, and came up with low battery, low oil pressure and parking brake failure, and the radiator fan was running..
checked fuses all ok.. was a new battery and still under waranty so I took it back and changed it.. still the same
read on here about the corroded wiring and fuse box problems.. so checked the fuse box and relays.. all good
was about to give up.. when I noticed a very small amount of green oxide around the wiring loom in front of the battery.. it was almost like a green ring around the wires..
I took the battery out so that I could get at it.. un wrapped part of the loom.. and there was 2 wires that had a very small spot of corrosion on them and they broke as soon as I touched them.. one was an orange wire and one was a white wire.. I stripped both of these wires and rejoined them with a new piece of wire..
these wires go to the brown plug with the black clip on the top of the fuse box..
anyway the car started first time with no messages on the dash.. so all fixed
the corroded wires were not in a position where they were rubbing on anything.. so if you have this problem look for the green corrosion

Had same roof leak problem and solved it by opening screws at both wheel arch liners and pull back the liners to reveal the drain pipes which were crimped closed with mud inside not letting water out. Ran a curtain rod down the pipes and hot soapy water down the pipes in a squeezy bottle and it all drained out rapidly, there must have been nearly a gallon in there
