Hi guys, I'm having a problem with the passenger side rear brake light on my 2005 Megan's cc. When I apply the brake pedal the front passengers side light comes on instead of the rear brake light, also I have no rear light on the same side when the headlight are on. Can anyone tell me how to fix this as my mot is due this week :crying2:

Thanks

bulb is either the wrong one fitted.
or its shorting because not in correct...
Pressing the brake pedal is making a circuit and putting your front side light on...
New bulb should sort this

You have now managed to move the connector that goes onto your rear light cluster,
The bulb you put in, it is a correct bulb for your car ( new ) not one you have found.
The bulb you put in, it had two pin connections on the base, not just one.

also I have no rear light on the same side when the headlight are on.
There is probably a bad earth connection on the rear light cluster assembly. Figure out the earth part on the rear light cluster and bolt a new wire on there, then connect the other end to the car chassis with another bolt. Use crimp connectors underneath the bolts. This should solve all your light problems.

Before you go to work, try with a starter cable or similar, to make additional earthing from the rear light panel earth metal to a car chassis earth metal part (must be a metal part with no paint on it to conduct electricity) while the lights/indicator are on, to see if at some point in time the problems change... this way you have identified if the problem is really with the bad earth or just a wrong kind of bulb. But I'm betting on the bad earth.

I know the bulbs are right as I got them from advanced auto parts and compared them to the drivers side bulbs which all work fine. Which is the ground wire I should try to cut n replace? I have four on the plug to the rear light assembly plus three to the brake/rear side light bulb located on the far left of the assembly.

Take the multi plug back off,,, look inside it, do the connections look clean..
Have a look at the light cluster, are the connections clean, .
Looking at the multiplug connectors, have coloured it with a red mark, make sure the connectors have not splayed apart, if they have carefully force them closer to each other

Mine seems to be missing a wire, one of the ports is empty?? I can't see a missing or damaged conductor however. All look clean and tight but I have found jiggling the wire when connected plays havoc with the indicator on the passenger side. I have a faint glow on the brake light when the brake is applied now but still no side light :| this is maddening!

That is just a generic picture, you have a lose or dirty connection.
Have a look again.. close the two prongs to each connector closer together....
Moving the connector is giving you a circuit,

Also, the bulbs you have put in, where the solder part touches the connection.
This connection point, is this clean.
While your multi plug is off, take the bulbs out, check these connection points ( metal flexi tab).
Now get some sort of hook, or small screwdriver and pull them upwards, as though you were trying to pull them out.
These connectors will bend back up, so once you put the bulb in, it will be pushing down on these connectors, and give a better connection..

OK bud checked every connection point again and used sand paper to rough the connection points, also lifted n closed up all the plug points. Indicators now work normally again but still no side or brake light and the front side light on the passenger side still flashes on and off when brake is applied....... HELP! Lol

Ok, now take your bulb out...
Have a look at the bottom of the bulb, can you see the two tabs ( solder parts)
Are they egg shaped, not just blobs of solder.
If yes, ( make sure lights off and key in your pocket)
Look at the two metal flexi tabs, that these connect on.
Get a screwdriver between them, and open them, make the gap between both tabs wider, so when the bulb is replaced. one can not touch the other.
The bulb you are fitting, are the metal tabs on the side of the bayonet ( metal body ) are they at 180 % or is it an offset bulb,
Have also come across, that with the offset bulb, it does not go all the way around, because it is the wrong bulb for the fitting... or vice versa

Quick update, a friend has put a new ground wire on the rear light for me. This has given me back a brake light but I still have a dim side light on the front when braking and I still have no rear sidelight.

Edit: I have a brake light now but no front or rear side light. All other lights works as normal.
