Flashing lights issue 2002 Clio 1.2

Evening

Recently acquired a 2002 Clio 1.2. It runs fine for the most part for a 14 year old car. Recently I've been having issues with the lights flicking off and on furiously. This is all the lights on the outside including the lights that illuminate the dash and radio display.

Initially I thought it was something to do with the automatic lights but I've turned this off and it still happens. Even with the lights off I can sometimes hear the relays clicking over in the glovebox furiously. I've noticed this happens the most when I've just started the car and less often when actually driving.

I feel really uneasy driving the car especially with the darker evenings drawing in. Would anyone have an idea what this could be?

Hi

first thing to check is that your battery leads are properly attached to the battery.

Does this happen if stationary or only when going along ? Do you know how old is your battery / alternator ?

This is a common problem with UCH-N3 body electrics computer. Will have nothing to do with the battery cables as suggested above.

There are two causes that do, what you have described.

The first culprit is the silver color aluminum electrolytic capacitor providing power feed filtering for the UCH printed circuit board. If the car hasn't been driven for some time prior to your purchase, then this is the most probably culprit, as these go bad when being not powered. But it is of a self-repairing type, so it will regain its dielectric properties over time, or you can take out the UCH board and change it if you don't want to wait for your headlight bulbs, etc., to blow.

If by changing this capacitor the fault does not disappear, then it is an intermittent connection on the UCH PCB. Here are instructions on how to repair that. Look for the picture with a "circle" around an area of the UCH. By going slowly and carefully through all of these joints with a soldering iron, you will probably at some point tackle the bad solder joint. http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/17-e...ch-controlchip-***-fixed-***.html#post2935786
