For future reference if your insurer doesn't cover the cost of replacement locks/keys, I am with a company called Keycare, cost me £20 per annum (I think) it covers all keys and lock changes( up to £1000), also courtesy car while car off the road having locks changed.

Life is too short...laugh and enjoy it while you are able to

'24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I Think not !!

Every decent car insurance company in Ireland does this as part of the policy. Check with your company, they might only cover part of it, but at least that is something.

It goes wothout saying if the key is changed either the immobiliser will have to be either changed or reprogrammed to suit dpending on the system as the key will either have a coded transponder or chip.

depends I guess HOW the keys were taken to IF replacement is on the cards.

MOST UK insurers condition is that "all reasonable steps to safegaurd the keys were taken."

For example, leave your keys in the ignition while you pay for petrol......... no.
