Thanks for the reponses guys.

Its a 2002 172 Cup. The house was broken into and the keys were taken from inside the house.

My insurers say that I will loose my no cliams discount, and I have to pay a large excess aswell - so ultimately having the keys changed through them will be expensive unltil my NCD is built up again.

I can buy new locks and barrel from a dealer and fit them myself, but this still leaves two problems:

1.) having to program the new key to the immobiliser / remote central locking - is it possible to do this outside of a renault dealer?

2.) because new key has been programed to the old sensor (ie nothing has changed regarding the remote sensor, presumably the old key could still unlock the car remotely (although obviously not start it). Is the only way round this to change the remote sensor within the car aswell? Is this even possible?

Thanks again

The car is programmed to suit the key for both opening and starting and as far as I know this can only be done by Renault. For obvious security reasons I think they would be extremely reluctant to programme a key they did not sell provide themselves. It may be possible to source the barrels and fit yourself but I think you'll be stuck with the immobiiser problem. I suggest you contact a Renault dealer and see what they say

I think you can only have two keys coded to the same immo, so maybe if you bought two new keys (unregisterd) and got blades cut etc and coded them both to the immo it would knoc the other two out of sync. Not too sure about this though, I just remember hearing that.

(I also used it as an excuse for the missus not being able to have a key to my car)
