Renault Scenic II - 04 plate dash fault

Hi Folks,

Wondering if anyone has come across this fault. When driving or stationary, the full dash display goes off, thats to say the info panel, speedo, clock, fuel - everything in that one lcd panel diappears totally, then it will appear back by itself a few moments later. I can cause it to happen by slapping the top of the dash, and bring it back on by doing the same.

I have noted some ebay posts, which seem to indicate a common problem here, and that the lcd panel can be repaired on a 48 hour turn around basis.

I wondered if anyone knew what the fault is with the panel, presuming that in at least the majority of cases, the fault lies with the same component of the panel (multiplug, solder joint or something).

Anyone have any experience, or had the problem happen to them. I'd appreciate any information you could give.

Hi Gairloch

Have a read of the link below a very common problem on Scenic II's, If your car has full Renault Service history I would give Renault Customer Services a call as they have being known to pick up the tab or make a contribution to repairs even if outside the warranty, always worth a call.

I used BBA Reman to repair my dash. As soon as I mentioned the car, he knew the chip that was probably to blame.
My dash started like yours, and had totally blanked out at this point. Sorry for the bad news.

I too can recommend BBA Reman,we've used them a number of times and they are excellent.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

Just a quick update, as I know how frustrating it can be to come across a problem similar to your own, but not to see a solution.

After removing the dash lcd panel, and stipping out the circuit board, and finding nothing evident to pinpoint the cause of the problem, but satisfied that the problem was in the lcd panel somewhere, I contacted a company by the name of ECUTesting, located here

The panel was boxed up for shipment and the company contacted on Monday, they organised pick up of the item, which was late Monday afternoon. And today (Wednesday) it was delivered back to me. 5 minutes later it was back in the car, all working again. Total cost including the shipping was 239.

Hope this may help some others with the same problem.
