Changes lights radio display

I have a Laguna 2 sports tourer and I find the reading of this panel (black letters on a white background) is not all that good especially when there is sun (not very often these days). I just wonder if there is any way of changing it to a black background with white letters, similar to the speedo etc., dials.

As far as I know it's an LCD display so cannot be done (The black letter part). Could change the colour of the back light but that's about it without having a cutom LCD made up.

Doubt that'll be cheap!

I changed all the dash lights on my old MX-3 from green to blue, and the only way to change the clock from green to blue was to replace the LCD. Have seen it done but wasn't cheap to do. About 50 for a 4 digit LCD clock custom made to fit an MX-3 I stuck with green!

Is it possible to fit a thin transparent coloured film over the white display to change the colour?

It may be possible but it may also break the LCD if you're not careful.

The LCD itselves is two glass plates with the liquid crystals between. The glass is sandwithed between two polarizing sheets of plastic. The orientation of the front sheet determends the color scheme. So if you remove the front sheet and rotate it 90 degrees, it will change from black on white to white on black. Of course, the plastic sheet will not be big enough, so you have to locate another. It's probably glued on with a weak adesive similar to celofane tape.

If you remove the front sheet, you can still read the display using your polarizing sunglassed.
